Benefits of Volunteering

With most of us leading busy lives, the idea of volunteering – giving your time and energy to a cause without financial reward – may seem an impossible task. How can we fit anything else into our already jam-packed schedules?

However, volunteering is important for many reasons and doesn't have to take up a huge chunk of your time. Furthermore, as well as the obvious benefits of volunteering to the community, individual or organization receiving assistance, there are multiple benefits – physical and mental – for the volunteer.

Benefits of volunteering:

  • Volunteering connects you with others
  • Volunteering builds self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Volunteering can improve social skills
  • Volunteering can improve physical health
  • Volunteering can improve mental health
  • Volunteering is important for a sense of purpose
  • Volunteering can build new skill sets
  • Volunteering is important for your career
  • Volunteering can lead to new friendships
